I completed my Master of Arts in Education in June 2005.  I currently hold a California Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Provisional Alaska Certificate.  Furthermore, I have also been AB-1059 certified, authorizing me to provide instruction to English Language Learners.

My academic internships have afforded me experiences with children of a variety of ages and learning styles.  I have worked with children ranging from preschool age throughout the elementary grade levels.  My experiences have included individual, small group and whole class instruction to students.  I have obtained great appreciation for each stage of development.  I believe that each child deserves a classroom environment that both nurtures and challenges his or her level of development.  To accomplish this, I use scaffolding with a variety of hands-on activities and different teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs.  It was my privilege to student teach in two ELD classrooms, where I was able to further hone my instructional abilities.

In addition, my Bachelor’s degree in Child Development greatly contributes to my understanding of how and why children grow and think.  I appreciate each child as an individual and strive to gain knowledge of each child’s background.  I understand the presence of cultural and social differences of students within the school system, and I am eager to help children acquire the skills needed to become successful.

It is always possible to approach a goal by a detour.
